🏛️ Two Cities, One Future? Merger Vote Possible in 2026

Forty-eight randomly selected residents have recommended Victoria and Saanich amalgamate after eight months of study. The Citizens' Assembly heard from experts, reviewed technical reports, and engaged with hundreds of residents before reaching consensus. Municipal amalgamation has long sparked heated debate across Canada, from small regions to major cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. Now both councils will consider the recommendation, with a potential referendum in 2026 requiring majority support from each community to proceed. Full report here.
