Hello Greater Victoria!

Our region is lighting up in the best way possible (despite all that rain out there right now!). This week brings 29 incredible experiences across our communities—from dazzling Christmas parades and twinkling light-up celebrations to cozy craft fairs, festive markets, and nature adventures that remind us why we love living here.

We're also celebrating some serious local pride this week. A former employee at Victoria's Robin Hood Inn and Suites on Gorge Road is heading to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and a new community survey reveals how Greater Victorians really feel about life in our region.

Whether you’re getting festive for Santa photos, exploring what your neighbours think about housing and transportation, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere across all 13 municipalities, this week has something special for everyone.

Family Fun: Our Top 3 Picks

Three family experiences we're excited about this week:

Make it a full day of holiday magic! Start at the Bastion Square Christmas Festival (1–6 PM) with mulled cider and photos with Santa (furry friends welcome!). Then catch the parade at 5:30 PM as dazzling floats and marching bands light up downtown. After the parade, head to Centennial Square for the spectacular Lights of Wonder opening night. Three festive experiences, one unforgettable evening!

Oak Bay Village is pulling out all the stops for the 25th anniversary of their Christmas Festival Light Up! Starting at 2 PM, enjoy street games, craft stations, roasted chestnuts, and entertainment along Oak Bay Avenue. Write your letter to Santa at the special direct-to-the-North-Pole mailbox (express delivery guaranteed!), try hula hooping with Planet Janet, and browse the vintage Christmas market. Live music kicks off at 3 PM, then watch thousands of lights illuminate the village when Santa arrives on an Oak Bay Fire Truck at 5 PM! Grab Santa photos by donation, hit up the food trucks, and soak in the festive magic. It's free family fun at its finest.

🦝 Rascally Raccoons Guided Walk – Nov 30 (Sun)

Think raccoons are just troublemakers? Think again! Join a CRD Regional Parks naturalist at Mount Work Regional Park (Durrance Lake parking lot, 10–11:30 AM) for a fun 1km walk where you'll discover what a day in the life of these masked bandits is really like. Spoiler: they might not be so rascally after all! Perfect for curious kids who love wildlife adventures.

From Robin Hood Inn Chambermaid on the Gorge to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Remember when a young Nelly Furtado made beds and tidied rooms at Victoria's Robin Hood Inn and Suites on Gorge Road? Well, she's officially Canadian music royalty now.

Our hometown hero will join Canada's music legends at the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this March 29th when the 2026 JUNO Awards air on CBC.

From Victoria church performances to international hits like "I'm Like a Bird," Furtado went on to sell over ten million copies of her album Loose. Her rise from Vancouver Island to worldwide fame remains a truly iconic Canadian success story.
