News Bites

  • Netflix filming across Greater Victoria from Sept 8 to Nov 21 - Did you manage to sneak a peek at the scenes filmed in Sidney last week for the new TV series "Easton Prep"? If you're one of the lucky locals who landed a background extra role, we're impressed - that's pretty cool bragging rights. For those curious about upcoming filming locations and dates, you can check out the current production schedule to see if the cameras might be rolling in your neighborhood next.

  • Community rallies after Esquimalt Ribfest fraud incident - You might have heard about the unfortunate situation at last week's Esquimalt Ribfest (an event we featured in our newsletter). Someone used a 3D printer to create fake tokens, which cost the festival about $2,000 - money that was meant to support local school programs and children's charities. But here's the heartwarming part: our amazing local business community has already stepped up to help replace those lost funds! There's also a $500 reward for information leading to the fraudsters. It's frustrating when someone tries to take advantage of a community event, but it's inspiring to see how quickly our neighbours rallied to make things right. Click here for a recent update by VicPD that includes a photo of the counterfeit tokens used at Esquimalt Ribfest.

  • Lane splitting leads to wallet splitting - A local motorcyclist found out that weaving between cars on McKenzie Avenue comes with a $196 price tag! Someone's dashcam caught the whole show - weaving through traffic, cutting between lanes, the works. Saanich Police used the footage to track down our speedy rider, who owned up to his moves when officers showed up. We love our motorcycles here in Greater Victoria, but keeping it safe (and legal) keeps everyone happy - including your wallet! Just a friendly reminder that those little cameras are everywhere these days.
